In his last speech before being assassinated in 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. spoke of how the modern technological revolution is driving social change. He reminded us that we must be “Remaining Awake Through a Great Revolution” – 49 years ago this month, six years before the first PC, ten years before email, 20 years before the Internet connected Europe and America, 22 years before the WWW went live, he spoke of ‘cybernation’ driving social change!
Use the power of technology: share (t)his message so that we remember to not fall asleep! Fight for progress, #resist the reactionary forces that want to turn back time to bleaker days of injustice and oppression.
“[…] a great revolution is taking place in the world today. In a sense it is a triple revolution: that is, a technological revolution, with the impact of automation and cybernation; then there is a revolution in weaponry, with the emergence of atomic and nuclear weapons of warfare; then there is a human rights revolution, with the freedom explosion that is taking place all over the world. […]
God grant that we will be participants in this newness and this magnificent development. If we will but do it, we will bring about a new day of justice and brotherhood and peace.”
Martin Luther King Jr. – @ the National Cathedral, Washington, D.C. 31 March 1968
